12 Week Groups


The 12-week Skills Group, part of the Awake & Aware program, is designed for both adults and adolescents seeking immediate support in managing intense emotions and behaviors. This program, derived from the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills component, offers a condensed format that focuses on skill acquisition and practice. Participants engage in weekly 90-minute sessions, available both virtually and in-person, which cover essential DBT skills such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. The curriculum supports significant reductions in psychological distress and improves coping mechanisms, as evidenced by multiple studies. An additional round of the program allows for further skill enhancement. Supplementary 30-minute skill support sessions with trained DBT therapists are available to aid in understanding and applying the skills learned. Note that individual therapy for non-group-related issues is not provided during the program, but referrals can be made if needed.
